Lake Bronson, Minn.: - Leo Locken, 81, of Lake Bronson, Minnesota died at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003.

Leo Carring Locken was born Sept. 11, 1922, the son of Bernard and Martha Locken.

He grew up in Lake Bronson and graduated from high school there in 1941.

November 6, 1942, Leo entered the U.S. Navy and served until Jan. 5, 1946. Leo was united in marriage to Dorothy Lager in the Lake Bronson Covenant Church on Aug. 19, 1950.

Leo served as postmaster in Lake Bronson from 1947 until 1963 when he began working as a rural mail carrier between Lake Bronson and Middle River. He retired from the post office in 1979.

For the past 20 years, Leo and Dorothy had spent their winters in and around Clarkston, Washington. They were looking forward to a permanent move there later this month.

Leo was the last liviing charter member of the Lake Bronson Lions Club; a member of the Community Covenant Church where he served as chairman, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Grumpy Old Men and the Owls Bible study groups in Clarkston and in the Lake Bronson community and was helping plan the upcoming centennial. He did enjoy fishing, hunting and community activities, but his first love was that of a husband, father and grandfather.

He was a good friend and role model and will truly be missed.

Family members include his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Mary Lee (Galen) Brelie, Mora, and Barbara (Randy) Mykleburst, Clarkston, Wash; six grandchildren, Andrew (Wendy) Johnson, Adam Johnson, Molly Mykelburst, Aynsley (Nickie) Brelie, Anika (Sam) Falk and Angel Brelie; a great grandchild, Carson Falk; two sisters, Ruby (Walt) Rodda, Yuba City, Calif. and Lorraine Melin, Fargo; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Melin.

Funeral services were Oct. 4, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Evangelical Mission Covenant Church, Kennedy with Rev. Keith Carlson and Rev. Steve Thompson, presiding.

Interment was in Riverside Cemetery at Lake Bronson.

Honorary pallbearers were Leo's grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Adam Johnson, Molly Mykleburst, Aynsley Brelie, Anika Falk and Angel Brelie.

Pallbearers were Robert Rich, John Remmington, Lorin Grahn, James Rich, Pat McGee, Rick Melin and David Swenson.
