Story from Jean Lowe family history book:

"Some of Walter's expertise was in woodworking and some of his time was spent in the Lowe shop making furniture. Walter was a builder having learned his trade while working with his father William. He was also part of the firm of Lowe Bros. with his brother George, and two half-brothers, Henry and Samuel. In 1876 Walter left the firm. There may have been strained feelings about it as there is correspondence between Walter and Henry suggesting that the books be audited by at least two arbitrators in order to settle the matter of Walter leaving the firm. One of Walter's first buildings built when he went on his own was a house for Hyndman who later sold it and moved to Edmonton for his health. Walter also bid on and won the contract for the new insane Asylum. Unfortunately there were several problems with the architectural drawings and this project became a long and costly affair which proved disastrous for Walter. The complete history of it is in the Lowe file at the Public Archives of PEI."
