William Fraser MacKay was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1871. His father was Dr. Alexander MacKay who m. Unknown Fraser and who was City Physician of Glasgow and died at age 38. He also owned a pharmacy and candy shop. His children were: William, David, Margaret and Elizabeth. William at age 16 and Daniel at age 14 emigrated to U.S. indentured to a distant relative three miles east of Donaldson, Minnesota to work off the cost of their voyage on the "Iona."
