Clifton took his first training in telegraphy at the railway station at North Wiltshire.. From there he moved to Kensington where he became Assistant Station Agent. While in Kensington, he married Jean MacNutt. They moved to Freetown in 1930 where Clifton became the Station Agent. They moved to Hunter River in 1947 where Clifton was transferred to be station agent. He also worked as a relief train dispatcher in Charlottetown. Clifton retired in 1962, lived with his daughter, Mary, for a time and then settled in Charlottetown. Later he suffered a stroke and spent several years in nursing homes, the last year and a half at Riverview Manor in Montague. He died at the Kings County Memorial Hospital 01 Jan 1973.

1. Mary Matheson
B: 02 Feb 1928 at Kensington, PEI
M: 23 Nov 1949. Roderick (Roddie) Pratt, son of Chester and Olive Pratt, St. Peters

Mary attended school in Freetown and took nurses training at the PEI Hospital in Charlottetown graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1949. They lived in St. Peters. Roddie Pratt was a sitting member of the PEI Legislature and Minister of Fisheries and Labour in the Government of Premier James Lee. Mary did private nursing in Charlottetown, was nurse at Kings County Memorial Hospital for 10 years, and at Riverside Manor for 8 years. They had five children: Halbert, Malcolm, Roderick, Barbara Jean, and Janet.

2. Malcolm Matheson
B: 09 Aug 1930, at Freetown, PEI
M: 18 Aug 1953, Shirley Carew, of Hunter River. They lived in Summerside, Charlottetown, Halifax, N.S., and Dartmouth, N.S. Malcolm was employed with Investments Syndicate. They had one child, Lori Jean Matheson.

3. Ross Matheson
B: 07 Apr 1935, Freetown, PEI
M: 1963, Noreen MacPherson, Charlottetown, PEI. They lived in Moncton, N.B. Ross was employed with Steeves Motors and later with Standard Life Insurance. In 1984, they owned and operated Lakeview Lodge in Cavendish. No children.
