March 26, 1984. Ruth Matthew Pederson recalled playing as a child in the original mud house her Grandfather built and lived in when first homesteading the land in Northern Minnesota.

George Matthew accumulated 14 sections of land, the Bank at Orleans, the Bank at Humboldt, the general store at Orleans, and the general store at Humboldt. It appears he placed a master mortgage that cross-collaterized all of the property and was later denied a loan from the manager of his own bank and lost most of his holdings for lack of tax payment on his land.
