Charles married Margaret Jane Brander who, with her parents, had moved from Chatham, N.B. to Elmsdale, PEI when she was about 16 years old. They settled on a farm in the Dock and lived where Vernon Matthews lived before he moved to Elmsdale in 1973.

M: 01 Jan 1887, in West Cape, PEI, Jessie Mary Campbell, from Milburn near O'Leary b. 23 Oct 1865 d. 29 Nov 1937, bur. Elmsdale United Church Cemetery. They were married by Methodist minister, Rev. D. H. Lodge of the West Cape Circuit. Charlotte Matthews and A. R. Campbell were witnesses. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on 01 Jan 1937. They had the following children: Margaret, John, Mabel, Jennie, Brander, Ross, Hessell, David, Lulu, Everett, William and Frances.

2. Mary Matthews

M: 24 Oct 1883, in Alberton, John Thomas Campbell b. Jul 1856 Lot 16 d. 30 Jul 1926, Hawarden, Sask.), brother of Jessie. They were married by Rev. Arhur F. Carr, Presbyterian minister. William Forsythe and Mary Amelia Matthews were witnesses. John is the brother of T.A.'s wife, Jessie Campbell. After living for a time in Milburn, PEI, they went to Hawarden, Saskatchewan and settled on a farm. They had one son, Ralph.

3. John Brander Matthews

D: 26 or 27 Sep 1945
M: 31 Aug 1891, in Cambridge, MA, Annie MertieThompson of Malpeque, PEI b. 15 May 1865 d. 17 Nov 1949, Cambridge, MA. bur. Cambridge, MA. They lived in PEI and Boston, MA before moving to a farm in Creelman, Sask. They had one son, Peston, and five daughters: Ella, Edith, Eva, Nina and Mildred. Annie was the sister of Edward Thompson who married John's sister.

4. Alexander Allan Matthews
B: 02 May 1867, Elmsdale, PEI
D: 03 Sep 1941, Alberton or Elmsdale, PEI
M: 26 Dec 1895, Pauline McNeill or MacNeill, of Elmsdale b. 09 Jun 1868 d. 1961, age 93, buried Elmsdale United Church Cemetery. He was a farmer and lived on the homestead in the Dock where Allan's parents, Charles and Margaret Jane Matthews, had lived. They had no children.

5. Charlotte Evelyn Matthews (Lottie)

D: 06 Apr 1951, Alberton, PEI
M: Edward Lidstone Thompson, Alberton, a brother of Annie. They lived in Malpeque before moving to Western Canada where they resided for some years. Later they returned to PEI and made their home in Alberton. They had no family. Edward was the brother of Annie Thompson who was married to John Brander Matthews.

6. Henry Edgar Matthews (aka Harry)

M: Gertrude McNeill b. 07 Jan 1877 Elmsdale, PEI d. 22 Mar 1960, Elmsdale, PEI bur. Elmsdale United Church Cemetery. Lived on farm adjoining his brother Allan's farm. Had 10 children - see separate sheet.

7. Margaret Winnifred (Winnie) Jane Matthews

M: 25 Mar 1895, Henry "Harry" MacNeill of Elmsdale, in Portland, ME b. 22 Feb 1870 d. 26 Sep 1955. They lived in Vancouver, B.C. and their family was: Edna, Pearl, Roy, Walter and Kenneth.

8. Annie Mae Matthews

M: Walter Moses Field, of Portland, ME. Walter b. 30 Oct 1870, Harpswell, Maine d. 07 Jul 1949 Augusta, Maine. They had four daughters and one son: Cora, Esther, Helen, Frances, and Charles.

11. James Percy Matthews

M: 29 Jun 1904, Agnes Mae Williams of Elmsdale b. 20 Oct 1885 d. Jun 1968. They lived in Hill's River. Agnes was the daughter of David and Marion Horne Williams and they established a home in Hill's River where they raised a family of nine children. As was the custom in those days, the four sons went to Boston when they became old enough to get employment. They married and made their homes there. Four of the five daughters married and lived in PEI. The remaining daughter, Lois, resided in Toronto after her marriage.
