Myrl Matthews, son of Silas Matthews and Lydia Wells, married Pearl Metherall, the only daughter of Gordon and Minnie (Warren) Metherall, and they resided in Mill River for four years immediately following their marriage. During this time, Myrl fished lobsters and also assisted his father-in-law with the farming operation and Pearl cared for her mother who was in failing health. Their two older children were born during this interval. In the fall of 1946, Pearl and Myrl and their children moved to their new home in Northport. In the spring of 1947, Pearl's parents, who had spent the winter in Maine, USA, joined them and spent the remainder of their lives with their daughter and son-in-law at Northport.

Gordon and Myrl continued to farm the land in Mill River until the farm was sold to Erskine Clark (now owned by Harold Gard). The house was sold to Fill Bartlett of Alberton and hauled down the ice. At the present time it is situated on Main Street and is owned by Albert Bernard.
