Obituary of Thomas Artemas Matthews
Summerside Newspaper, 1943
Friends throughout the province regret to learn of the death on January 26th of Mr. T. A. Matthews at his home in Elmsdale at the advanced age of eighty years. The late Mr. Matthews was one of the most prominent farmers of this district and a very highly esteemed resident of the community. He was a man of boundless hospitality and his many acts of charity and kindness to those in need will not be soon forgotten. Throughout his long and useful life he was a God-fearing, amiable and honest man, possessing the ideals and putting into effect, those principles on which we judge the character of the true Christian. He was survived by five sons and four daughters namely: Messrs. Brander and Ross of the USA; David of Elmsdale; Hessel of Arlington and Everett at home; Mrs. Everett Brennan and Mrs. Michael Cummiskey of East Walpole, Mass.; Mrs. Margaret Messer of South Portland, Maine and Mrs. Emmett Sentner of Roseville. Parents: Charles Matthews and Margaret Jane Brander.
