Peter McEwen Obituary

Peter M. McEwen, 55 years, of Edinburg, died on April 1, at the Dakota Hospital in Fargo. He was born March 7, 1924, at Drayton, ND, the son of Lorne and Josephine (Jensen) McEwen. They moved to Humboldt, MN when he was a small child and received his elementary education in Humboldt, MN. He graduated from high school in Hallock MN in 1943. He entered the Armed Services on June 15, 1943 and received an honorable discharge in 1946. He married the former Leona Johnson on April 16, 1949, at Hallock, MN. Following their marriage, they lived in Glyndon, MN until October of 1949; then they moved to Edinburg, where he has resided since. He served as depot agent in Edinburg for many years and later as resident agent for Burlington Northern Railroad at Hoople, ND. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Edinburg; a member of the church council; past commander of American Legion of Edinburg; present member of the city council, serving as Clerk; member of Edinburg Booster Club, past clerk of school board, honorary member of GLT Fire Department, acted as City Auditor for 20 years, member of Golden Valley Lodge No. 26 AF & AM of Park River and was also past master of the lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Leona, of Edinburg, ND; three sons, Tom of Park River, ND; John of Fargo, ND; Jim of Osseo, MN; his mother, Mrs. Josephine McEwen of Hallock, MN; two brothers: Lorne of Emerado, MN, Neil of Thief River Falls, MN, four sisters, Mrs. Jack (Doris) West of Santa Maria, CA, Mrs. Walter (Helen) Erickson of Roseau, MN, Mrs. Elizabeth Deere and Mrs. Warren (Ortie) Kinshella, both of San Diego, CA; two grandchildren, Sara and Scott.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

Funeral services will be held on April 4, at 3:00 p.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Edinburg with Pastor Paul O. Guldseth officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg is in charge of arrangements.
