Mildred H. Gums, 89, Hallock, formerly of Jamestown, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998 at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.

Mildred was born Oct. 14, 1909 in Hallock, the daughter of William A. and Henrietta O. (Moen) Muir.

She grew up and attended school in Hallock, graduating from Hallock High School in 1927.

In 1929, she moved to Jamestown where she began working for the N.D. State Hospital. She married Jacob John Gums on July 10, 1940 in Warren.

She worked for the North Dakota State Hospital for 46 years as supervisor of housekeeping before retiring. Jacob died Oct. 21, 1994. She continued to make her home in Jamestown until 1995 when she moved to Hallock to be closer to her family.

Mildred was a member of First United Methodist Church, Jamestown; American Legion Auxiliary; Disabled American Veterans and American Association of Retired Persons.

She is survived by three sisters, Annie, Mrs. William R. Hanson, Thief River Falls; Ruby C. Sorenson, Hallock; Louise, Mrs. Willard Leff, Alton, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, three brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 9, 1998 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dick Boyd officiating.

Burial was at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.

Eddy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
