Leslie Nordlling

Hallock, Minn. - Leslie Nordling, 80, Hallock, died at his home Monday, March 3, 2003.

Charles Leslie Nordling was born in Thompson Township of Kittson County Jan. 15, 1923, the son of Carl and Christine (Nordine) Nordling.

He attended Thompson Country School through the eighth grade and transferred to the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, graduating in 1942.

On June 16, 1948, he was united in marriage to Shirley Homstad at the Sion Lutheran Church in Lancaster. Les farmed in Thompson Township for many years, operated the 20 cent laundromat in Hallock, and also worked at the Hallock Post Office until 1987 when he retired.

Les and Shirley are members of Grace Lutheran Church in Hallock. Les, like his father, served as clerk of the Thompson Township Board for many years and also served on the boards of Sion and Grace Lutheran churches.

Family members include his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Joan (James) Anderson, Long Lake, Cristi (Klark) Elder, Champlin, and Janet (Tor) Newcomer, Stamford, Conn.; two sons, Jon, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Paul (Debbie), Albertville; seven grandchildren, Dawn, Chad, Chris, Neal, Katie, Blake and Nikola; two great grandchildren, Ashton and Marki; three sisters, Arlene Peterson, Beulah, N.D., Lila (Phil) Ahumada, Fayetteville, N.C., and Bonnie (Don) Pederson, Knoxville, Tenn. as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura in 1981; a son, Mark in 1983; his parents; and two brothers, Dennis and Bill.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 8, 2003, 2:00 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Rev. Timothy Lofstrom and Rev. Kenneth Losch, presiding.

Interment was in the Union Liberty Cemetery, rural Hallock.

Pallbearers were Kent Peterson, Curtis Nordling, Roger Schwenzfeier, Merle Schwenzfeier, Todd Johnson, Brian Johnson, Steve Blomquist and Jon Bloomquist.

Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock, was in charge of arrangements.
