The Four Oistads Have All Been Hospitalized
There were four Oistads in the service but there are only three now. Wilbert was severely wounded last year and has now been discharged. Private Wilbert Oistad was inducted into the Army in March, 1942, took training at Ft. Lewis, Washington and Camp Hood, Texas, went overseas in January, 1943, wounded in Africa March 31st, 1943, and was sent back to the States in June, 1943.
Sgt. Ernest Oistad was inducted into the Army in March, 1944, trained at Camp Hood, Texas, went overseas in October, 1944, was wounded in action in Belgiium on February 2, 1945. Is still in a hospital in England. They are all sons of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Oistad of Karlstad. If this war doesn't end soon they are going to have a fifth son, John, in the service too, as he is fast growing up.
S-Sgt. Palmer Oistad, inducted into the army air force in Nov. 1942, trained as mechanic at Embry Riddle School in Florida, went overseas to N. Africa in Sept. 1943. Palmer has not been wounded but just to make the record complete of all having been hospitalized, he broke a finger playing kitten ball.
Pfc. Oliver Oistad, inducted into the army in October, 1943, basic training at Camp Fannin after which he was a cook until sent overseas to France. He was wounded in action at Luxembourg on December 29, 1944. He is now on permanent limited service in the air corps somewhere in England.
