HOLGATE - Henry W. Schuette, 83, Holgate, died Sunday morning in his home.
He was born April 8, 1918, in Henry County's Napoleon Township, the son of Herman and Freda (Panning) Schuette. In 1945, he married Evelyn Rickenberg, who survives. He was the owner/operator of Schuette Clothing Store in Holgate from 1960-86 and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Holgate, where he formerly served on the church counsel, as Sunday school superintendent, teacher and delegate to American Lutheran Church National Convention. He was a former member of Holgate Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce, an organizer of Holgate's Community Harvest Festival, a decorated U.S. Army veteran serving with the 32nd Division during World War II and a life member of New Bavaria VFW Post 8847 and Holgate American Legion Post 340.
Also surviving are three sons, Dennis of Charlotte, N.C., and David and John, both of Holgate; two brothers, Paul and Lawrence, both of Napoleon; two sisters, Edna Coe of Fort Wayne and Laura Meyer, Punta Gorda, Fla.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the church with Pastor Dana Bjorlin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by Bavaria VFW Post 8847 and Holgate American Legion Post 340. Visitation is from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Snyder Funeral Home, Holgate.
Preferred memorials are to the church building fund, Wernle Home for Boys or a charity of the donor's choice.
