Kittson County Enterprise Obituary, April 29, 1998
Verna A. McGlashan, 94, died Friday, April 10, 1998 at Evergreen Karrington Care Center, Portland, Oregon.
Verna Seed was born in St. Vincent Township, Kittson County, Jan. 20, 1904, the eldest daughter of Thomas Seed and Catherine (Ash) Seed.
She grew up on the family farm first attending school in a one room school just down the road, then finishing in St. Vincent.
In November of 1927 she was united in marriage to Harry McGlashan. The couple farmed in St. Vincent Township until Harry's death in 1957. In the ensuing years she lived in California and Oregon.
In her 60's while living in Portland she realized a long held desire to oil paint. Her God given talent soon became evident and her lovely paintings hang in the homes of friends and family across the country.
Verna especially enjoyed her four granddaughters, watching them grow from infancy to young womanhood, helping them along the way, imparting wisdom and strength to each one.
We will always treasure our memories of a Godly, loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Hands that were always busy helping someone, a life well lived, home with the Lord.
She is survived by daughters, Irene B. White, Biloxi, Miss.; Norma Johnson, Portland, Oregon; four granddaughters; sisters, Mary (Blair) Stacy, Minneapolis; Eulalia Curtis, Canton, Illinois; brothers, Marvin (Dorothy) Seed, Hallock; Wilbert (Mary) Seed, St. Vincent; four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, brother Nelson and sister Marie Krumholz.
Family prayer in Gresham, Oregon at Batenan-Carroll Funeral Chapel, concluding services were held Saturday, April 18, Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock. Burial in St. Vincent Cemetery.
