Stewart, Robert Bruce
M: (1) Helen Stewart Birnie, a granddaughter of John "Hellfire Jack" Stewart.
Robert Bruce Stewart was a landlord who arrived in 1846 to manage his father's property and his own, and eventually he became sole owner. He was the largest resident proprietor on the Island, in Strathgartney, Lot 30. Stewart, by his own estimate had nearly 80,000 acres in the colony and was an outspoken defender of proprietary rights, with a reputation as a severe and unbending landlord.
