Kalvin Sylvester

Grand Forks, ND - Kalvin Sylvester, 86, Grand Forks, and formerly of Hallock, died at Valley memorial Homes, Grand Forks, Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001.

Kalvin was born in Humboldt, Nov. 4, 1914, the son of Len and Bertha (Gill) Sylvester. He graduated from Humboldt High School and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.

On Feb. 28, 1942 he married Anne Walters at Hallock. Kalvin owned and operated Sylvester Service in Donaldson, sold crop insurance and was the civil defense director for Kittson County until 1981 when he retired.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Family members include his wife, Anne; a son, Terry (Mary) Sylvester, Pembina; two grand-daughters, Beth (Shawn) Wilson, Aurora, Colo. and Lisa (Chad) Snyder, Sioux Falls, SD; two great granddaughters, Kenzie Snyder and Madison Wilson; two sisters, Madrienne (Andy) Theisen, Florida and Hazel Schultz, Red Lake Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step mother.

Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 28, 11 a.m, Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Rev. Robert Kippley presiding.

Pallbearers were Brian Olson, Mark Wiese, Ted Kroulik, Don Murray, Kent Schultz and Marvin Hallberg.

Hughes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
