Arnold R. Thompson, 85, Donaldson, died at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998.
Arnold was born in Donaldson Oct. 23, 1913, the son of Thomas and Amanda (Lindahl) Thompson. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Donaldson.
Arnold graduated from Hallock High School in 1931. On May 12, 1938, he married Opal Furter at Donaldson. The couple settled in Donaldson and operated Arnold's General Store there.
Arnold took a job with Montgomery Ward's and lived in Marietta and Thief River Falls. They later moved to Kennedy and Arnold worked at the Kiene Store there. After leaving Kennedy they moved to Davis Township and farmed there until 1985.
He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was also a long time member of the NFO and served as sexton of the Hillcrest and Lundeby Cemeteries.
Family members include his wife, Opal; a daughter, Mary (John) Jenkins, Hallock; two sons, Jack (Linda) Thompson, Donaldson and James (Barb) Thompson, Hallock; four grandchildren; a great grandson; a sister, Martha DeGere, Sebastopol, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, a sister, Ann; and two brothers, Edwin and Carl.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, 2 p.m. in St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Donaldson. Interment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, rural Donaldson. Rev. David Pearson, presiding.
Pallbearers were Brent Thompson, Mick Thompson, Keith Britten, Don Murray, Dennis Winge, Murvin Winge, and Ted Kroulik.
Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock, was in charge of arrangements.
