Viola Turner

Hallock, Minn. - Viola Turner, 87, Hallock, died at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, Monday, June 23, 2003.

Viola Myrtle Tranberg was born in Thompson Township, Kittson County, Dec. 28, 1915, the daughter of Emanuel and Hulda (Strand) Tranberg.

She graduated from Hallock High School in 1934 and worked for her brother, Reuben, in the Golden Rule Store at Hallock. From an early age Viola was active in different positions in the churches she attended.

After attending the Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Canada she moved to Princeton, Ill. and worked at the Covenant Children's Home until the late 1940's when she returned to Hallock to care for her parents. Viola worked part-time as a dental assistant for Dr. Barden and as a receptionist at the Kittson Memorial Hospital.

On June 21, 1956 she married Harold Turner at Hallock. They farmed in St. Vincent Township until their retirement in 1989 when they moved to Hallock. Harold died Aug. 7, 1999.

Family members include a sister, Gladys Peterson, Moorhead, a sister-in-law, Vertie Ward, St. Vincent, and an aunt, Clara Cox, Williston, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Reuben, Abel and David; two sisters, infant Signe and Elna Abel and three sister-in-law, Irma Abel, Mary Tranberg and Myrtle Anderson.

Funeral services were Friday, June 27, 2003, 10:30 a.m. in the Evangelical Free Church in Pembina. Interment was in the Joe River Cemetery. Rev. Mason Peters, presided. Pallbearers were Dean Anderson, Paul Anderson, Robert Ward, Arnie Peterson, Gary Webster and Courtney Abel.
