Nellie May Turner (Mrs. Silas Matthew)

Mr. Silas Matthew

Services: Hallock City Hall, April 24, 1975, James Brown, Duane Forsberg

Interred: Joe River Cemetery

M: 04 Dec 1918 Nellie May Turner at St. Vincent, MN. She is daughter of the late John Turner and Mrs. Turner. The groom is nephew of Mr. George Matthew and Mr. Alfred Matthew of Humboldt.

They farmed at Humboldt, MN until retirement in 1973. Survivors include his wife, one son, Wilfred - Minneapolis, one foster daughter, Mrs. Louis (Clara) Plowske - Duluth, and three grandchildren.

Eldora says after Uriah Bertram Matthew (Bertie) died, his wife married John Easter. It is reported that Silas and John did not get along and Silas lived with Alfred's family for a time.

I believe that Nellie May (Turner) Matthew would be a descendant of our Hannah Kienapple who was from the Waterloo, Ontario area of Canada. The story fits about coming from Germany with her parents, brother and aunt. It was her mother who died aboard the ship, and her father remarried the aunt after a few years in Canada.

I would like to contact someone in that family. I realize many years have gone by since that article was written about Nellie May but would you have any idea on where I would begin to track down someone who could put me in touch with her descendants? If I am right, I have more information for them and they could tell me some things.

Any clues would be gratefully received.

Thanks.
