Roger Ward, 89, Hallock and formerly of St. Vincent, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.
Roger Hugh Ward was born at McArthur, ND, June 26, 1910, the son of Walter and Nellie (Pritchard) Ward.
He grew up in St. Vincent Township and graduated from Humboldt High School in Humboldt.
Oct. 19, 1934, he was united in marriage to Brita Anderson at the Northstar Church near St. Vincent. He farmed most of his life and was very involved in showing prize hogs and sheep at county fairs, state fairs and winter shows in the Red River Valley. June 16, 1985 his wife Brita died. He continued to farm until 1997.
He became a resident at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center Feb. 24, 1998. He was a board member and former Sunday School teacher at the Northstar Church and taught Sunday School and attended the Pembina Evangelical Free Church. Rogber was very active in the reconsolidation of rural school districts and served on the Humboldt-St.Vincent School Board for over 20 years. He also served on the board of the St. Vincent Elevator for 45 years and was former chairman of the Joe River Watershed Board and from 1976 to 1996 was a charter member and treasurer of the Red River Watershed management Board.
He was also actively involved in Greenbush Sheep Days. He and Brita were voted Red River Valley Farmer and Homemaker of the Year and in 1980, Roger became a member of the Red River Valley Winter Show's "Hall of Fame."
Family survivors include a daughter, Joanne (Evans) Anderson, Kennedy; sons, Allan (Barbara) Ward, Waseca, Minn., Raymond (Nancy) Ward and Reynold (Carolyn Ward, all of St. Vincent; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Eugene (Emma) Ward, Trinity, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Brita; and two brothers, Laurence and Willis.
Funeral services were held Dec. 28, 1999, at Evangelical Free Church, Pembina, ND.
Interment was in the Joe River Cemetery, rural St. Vincent with Rev. David Pearson and Rev. David Giles, presiding.
Special music was provided by Kathy Oakes, organist, and Marion Anderson, soloist.
Honorary pallbearers were Moris Webster, Harold Finney, Harley Younggren, Roy Webster, Art Barron and Donald Ogaard. Pallbearers were Arne Anderson, Alan Anderson, Poaul Anderson, Lowell Anderson, Robert Ward and John Giles.
Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock was in charge of arrangements.
