The
Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Belle
Plaine, Minnesota
The prairie gothic Episcopal church with
wooden buttresses is a unique structure in the
area. Built in 1868, it was intended for
English-speaking persons. However, the area was
settled primarily by German and Irish immigrants
who brought their own worship practices to the
community. http://www.scottcountyhistory.org/sitesepiscopalchurch.html |

Shakopee,MN 55379-1797
612-445-6900 B 841299
ADMISSION PRICE:
Adult: $7.00
Student and Seniors: $6.00
5 and under: Free A trip to Murphy's landing is a
trip back in history. The 87 acres located in
Shakopee offer a village of homes and businesses
from the 1870s thru the 1890s. You can tour the
Atwater House, a gothic revival home built in the
Andrew Jackson Downing style in the 1860's, a one
room Schoolhouse, built of Shakopee Red Brick in
1887, and the Chaska Depot, built in 1886, which
had two waiting rooms, one for men and one for
women.
Each building
has its own costumed interpreter who can answer
questions. It is truly a beautiful location in
the winter, right on the Minnesota River and
holidays in each ethnic style are represented in
the houses. In October, Murphy's Landing turns
into Spooky World.

Stans
Homestead and the Stans Garden-Park
Stans boyhood home and Garden-Park
adjoin the museum property. The bungalow style
house is furnished the way Maurice Stans
remembered it as a youth. The house is typical in
style and furnishings of many homes built in the
early 1900's. The house is open to the public and
tours are available Tuesday-Friday. Website: http://www.scottcountyhistory.org/sitesstans.html |

S.
B. Straitt House
All that remains of St. Lawrence
today is the Strait House dating back to 1857.
Six houses, a school, a hotel, a sawmill, a plat
map, a post office are all gone. The house is
located in the DNR's Minnesota Valley Recreation
Area, between Belle Plaine and Jordan, north of
U. S. Highway 169 and a mile west of the County
Fair Grounds on County Road 57.

| Gopher
State Railway Museum (GSRM) http://www.gsrm.org Gopher
State Railway Museum (GSRM) is not open at this
time. We are a nonprofit organization with a
focus on preserving railroad history by building
a railroad museum park. All plans for the park
have been finalized. The museum will be built in
stages as money and volunteers become available.
The plans include a station, car maintenance
building, beanery, and multiple railroad related
structures. GSRM owns a 20 acre plot of land 2
miles north of New Prague, Minnesota on State
Highway 21. Much of our equipment is scattered
around the state of Minnesota. We are working
with the Union Pacific to install a switch for
access onto our property when they have a work
crew in our area. We will be able to bring most
of our equipment home when the switch has been
installed. GSRM has moved a 20 x 40 M&StL
maintenance of way tool building to our property.
This M&StL building will be our first display
building for use in phase one of our
construction. A large maintenance building is
also planned so our members can work on
equipment. We are actively seeking new members by
doing local festivals and parades. If you reside
in Minnesota and would like to make your mark in
life drop us an email or send in an application
for membership we sure could use your help. Our
organization is also looking for displays of
railroad related items, things like signals,
small buildings, round tables, rolling stock, and
other display items are very important to us.
Gopher State Railway Museum is going to be a
great asset to the southwest metro area of
Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
