History Of Chester Park Church, Duluth MN
Chester Park Church was founded in 1893 as the only Evangelical Church in Duluth. The original building was at Sixth Avenue East and Fifth Street and was called Hope Evangelical Church.
On November 25, 1928 Chester Park Evangelical Church, located at 18th Avenue East and 9th Street was dedicated. In 1946 the merger of the Evangelical and the United Brethren in Christ took place and it became Chester Park Evangelical United Brethren Church.
In June of 1954 construction began on the education unit. In 1967 work started on a 20 foot extension of the original building. Remodeling of the Sanctuary and Parish Hall was completed in 1968.
In April of 1968 the church merged with the Methodist church to become the Chester Park United Methodist Church.
In 1989 another remodeling project was completed. This included removal of the parsonage, more off street parking and access to the Parish Hall.
