On 12 Dec 1875, the Stranger, a schooner carrying provisions to the fishing grounds off of Grand Marais, capsized. Captain Isaac N Clark; George Coburn; Joseph Codatte; and James LaFaure all drowned. The schooner sailed out of Superior City and the fathers of Clark and Coburn are prominent citizens of that community.
