In 1905, the remains of fourteen soldiers of the War of 1812 were buried at
Arlington National Cemetery. They were discovered earlier in the year
during project construction on the present site of the Washington Navy Yard.
In April 1976, this memorial was dedicated by the National Society United States Daughters of 1812.
"Fourteen Unknown Soldiers and Sailors of the War of 1812
Symbolic of All Who Made the Supreme Sacrifice in That War"
