ANDERSON
The John ANDERSON I am seeking was born 15 Aug 1867 in Madelia, he was married to Jeannette (Jennie) TAMM. They lived on the ANDERSON Farm east of Madelia. He was the son of John ANDERSON and Frances DOYLE who were immigrants that met on the passage from Ireland. I found the grave of John H ANDERSON 1867-1929 in Calvery Cem. Madelia. There is only the year he died, so could not find an obit. I am not even sure if he died in Madelia and know almost nothing about his life. An obit would be very helpful. He may have lived on the family farm in Blue Earth Cty that was owned by his sister Mary (ANDERSON) NOONAN.

BAKKE/CHRISTENSEN
I grew up in Madelia, Watonwan County, Minnesota. Born in 1951 to Julian S. Bakke and Myrtle I. Reckard, Baker, Bakke. I have 3 half brothers, Harold G., Ronald D. and Robert Baker, from my Mother' 1st marriage to Harold G. Baker (he was killed in WWII, on a ship at Pearl Harbor, I believe. I would be interested in any information about the following family names. BAKKE (Paternal Grandfather & Grandmother - Jacob & Sophie) CHRISTENSEN (Paternal Grandmothers maiden name, her parents were Soren & Olava, but I don't know her mothers maiden name although I think it may have been Jorgensen or Jorgenson). I know that Jacob BAKKE immigrated from Norway, but I don't know from where or when or what the family name was in Norway. Would like to find out! I believe he had some relatives here, sisters or half sisters. There was an Inga Garren, and Annie Martinson that I think were sisters or half-sisters of his. I don't know who immigrated from the Christensen side or from where or when. Soren and Olava are buried in Rosendale Cemetary southwest of Madelia. Sophie and Jacob are buried there also.

BARNES/BROWN/VOGE/WAAGE
I am searching for information regarding my grandparents and great grandparents, all of whom lived in the Madelia area. Great grandparents: Bernt VOGE and Ingrid BARNES. Grandparents: Herman Thomas BROWN and Serena VOGE BROWN. My grandmother was born in Madelia in June 1889. I know my grandparents were still in the area through 1922 because my aunt, Arlone LaVone Brown also born in Madelia, Minnesota. There are six daughters and one brother that should have the maiden name of Voge. My grandmother has Woge on her death certificate. I called a cemetary caretaker in Madelia seeking the name Voge. He wrote back indicating the names of my great grandparents buried in Madelia were under the name of Waage.

COHOON/CAHOON/WILLEY
Someone recently emailed me regarding a lookup in the "Memorial Record of Faribault, Martin, Watonwan and Jackson Counties, Minnesota." Later that day, my computer crashed, and I lost all unanswered emails. The subjects of the lookup request were COHOON/CAHOON and WILLEY, as I recall. Since I don’t have the requester’s name/address, I will post the findings here in hopes that the person still gets an answer. The findings were very meager unfortunately. No CAHOON/COHOON is mentioned in the book. And only one WILLEY. The entry is within a bio sketch on Perrin M. Marston, and says, "Perrin M. Marston was born in the province of Quebec, Canada, June 30, 1855, the youngest son of the seven children of Samuel and Sarah (WILLEY) Marston." (page 545). I’m sorry I was not able to help.

DEMPSEY, a well know Civil War veteran from this area, d. in Madelia 1922. b. Oct. 13, 1838 RI, lived with parents in Wis. til enlisted in Civil War. Returned to WI. married Kathleen CLIFFORD, and moved to Madelia area raised family and died there. Daughter, Anna Cecelia, married Thomas GARRY from Gukeen.
I have been up there several times, and one time a worker sent me 1875 MN census for Michael DEMPSEY, Pleasant Mound, Blue Earth Co. It looks as if there were possibly more family members on the next page not included. Also is there a 1885 or 1890 or 1895 census for Blue Earth and Watonwan Co. They lived on the border of the two and sometimes lived in Lewisville. HAUGEN
I am searching for possible descendants of Mr. and Mrs. Tollef K. Haugen
who in 1894 moved from Albert Lea to St. James. They were both born
around 1860. Mrs. Haugen's first name was Dorothea or just Thea, sometimes mentioned as Dorothy, and her maiden name was Christopherson. She was born in Toten, Norway, but came as an infant with her parents to Minnesota. The Christophersons resided in Newry Township, Freeborn Co., Minnesota. To my knowledge, Mr. Haugen worked as a banker in St. James. T. K. Haugen siblings were in a different part of Minnesota (Freeborn Co.) -- their names were Anders, Ole, Thomas, Johan, Ida. I am related to Dorothea, not to Tollef. If Tollef and Dorothea stuck with Norwegian name traditions and named their children after the grandparents, then you could look for Knut Haugen, Christian Haugen, Karen Haugen, maybe Louis or Lewis Haugen -- all would have to be born after 1880. JOHNSON,Charles Julius
My paternal great father Charles Julius JOHNSON (b. May 1852 in Dorsland, Sweden) emigrated to the US in 1857 with his parents Johanas and Christine JOHNSON. The family settled in Long Lake TWP. Some family history gives Christine's maiden name as HANSEN/HANSON, that she was Johanas' second wife, and Johanas' had at least two more children Andrew and Anna. Johanas' neighbors called him "The Lawyer". Johanas' son Charles Julius JOHNSON married Karen (Kate, Katherine) about 1876. They had nine children: Charlotte Emily, Clara M., Julia "Dudy", Charles Walter,
Harriett, Mable Eleanor, Harry, Frank Joseph, Ray Sterling.
The 1880 US Census for Long Lake Twp reports 3 additional JOHNSON families who were neighbors of Charles and Karen, who had also emigrated from Sweden. Are there any JOHNSON researchers who are related to the following families: 1st family - Gustau JOHNSON age 36, Christina age 30, Hulda S. age 5, Theodore age 4, Tilda age 3, Naeme age 1, Carl V. 2nd family - John JOHNSON age 66, Christi age 67, Hoken age 46. 3rd family - Sarah JOHNSON age 45, Emma C. age 12, Alfred age 9, Hilda age 8, Sarah M. age 6, Albert, Anna S. I am researching my father's LEE family. My father's name was Frank Oliver LEE. He was born in St. James Minnesota on October 19, 1891 to Peter (Per) LEE and Mary (Marit)LEE. He was baptized on July 10, 1892 according to the records of the Long Lake Lutheran Congregation, and a copy of the certificate was signed by a Pastor A. (?) DANIELS and witnessed by: 1)Torkild(?) & Lena LIEN 2)Charles BUGTEN(?) 3)Anna HORTEN(?) on January 19, 1957. My father had requested the birth and baptismal certificate as he had come to Weldon, Saskatchewan, Canada with his parents in 1902 when he was eleven years old and before immigration records were kept between the U.S.A. and Canada in the great plains region. My father had the following brother and sisters: Severt, Anna Torina, Lena, Pauline, Inga, and Mabel (now all deceased). I know that he had relatives in the St. James region as I have an old post card from St. James, MN postmarked 1904 from a "cousin Bertina". Any information would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to trace my family back to Norway. Thank you,
