Vintage Scenes of Winona, Minnesota

Winona is also a college town. Originally, there were three colleges:
Winona State College (now Winona State University),
the College of St. Teresa (closed
recently),
and St. Mary's College.

St. Mary's College

St. Mary's Hall, College of St. Teresa The oldest building on the St. Teresa campus was demolished in the 1990s and would have been standing in the late 19th century.

The following information courtesy of "sadsack" on Winonanet:
The old St. Teresa campus is now a part of Cotter High School. Also, some of the dorm rooms house Winona State University students, so the purpose of the property hasn't changed in the last 110 years ~ it's still used for education.

I think the building I remember being torn down was Cotter Hall, facing Cummings Street between Broadway and Wabasha streets, which was built in 1894, the same year the Seminary opened.

St. Mary's Hall, located on Wabasha between Cummings & Vila Street which is the large building pictured on old postcards, was torn down in 1961 after the construction of the Roger Bacon Center. There were two square blocks of green space for many years, until the Recreation Center was built there.
