After researching the VETSH lines for the last twenty some
years I would like to share my findings---Find the
group sheets for Jacob Vetsch.... and Joseph Vetsch
Jacob Vetsch's
family moved Missouri to Minnesota in 1857
During the latter part of 1857 Jacob VETSCH & his brother Joseph VETSCH
kept a small store on their claim in SW quarter of section 12 twsp 120 range 24 but gave up the business after
about 2 years. St Michael MN-Joseph Vetsch bought a
store in St. Michael in 1863 but sold it shortly after. Store
owned in 1866 by F.T. Aydt & Joseph
VETSCH.
Jacques (Jacob) born 7 March 1824 in Niederlauterbach, France. Jacob married Mary
Ann Linke
(aka Maria Anna Link) 12 May 1845 by Father VanMierlo
at All Saints Church at St. Peter.
Missouri. They had two
children: 1. Catherine. and 2. Frank. Mary Ann died
when Frank was about a year old.
Jacob married Elizabeth Cordes
(or Cortes or Kors)
February 1655 at St.Faul Church in St. Paul. Missouri. Jacob and Elizabeth
had one child Theresia. The family moved to St. Michael,Minnesota. in
1857.Jacob was in Frankfort Twsp in 1858. He was
elected overseer of highways in the first township election. J. Vetsch filed a homstead claim on 19 Oct 1860 in Section 1 of Frankfort Twsp.
Jacob volunteered 2 Sept. 1664 to serve in the Minnesota regiment in the Civil
War —— partially to go to his brother LORENZ’s aid who was wounded. Jacob signed for his personal effects.
Jacob served under Sherman in the Civil War from
September 1664 to June 1663. Not much fighting mostly plundered and marched.
Jacob marched with General Sherman- was in Raleigh when Lee surrendered.
later marched in review in Washington, D.C. Jacob and Elizabeth
had 6 more children: 2. Josephine. 3. Joachim. 4. Anthony. 3. Laurentius Jacobus. 6. Joannes Jacobus, 7. Marie or Mary, 6. Cecelia. and 9. Bertha.
