The Friendship Quilt pictured
below was recently purchased at an auction in Republic, Missouri
by Shelly Horned. The quilt was
evidently made by employees of the Barry County Creamery Company and has
hundreds of employee names embroidered on its' blocks. Though little history
of the creamery can be found we do know that it was operating in 1911 according
to a brief article in the Cassville newspaper. According to "The
First 150 Years in Cassville, Missouri" by Senator Emory Melton the creamery
proprietor was George E. Joslin. In 1915 Mr. Joslin added an ice
plant adjacent to the creamery. The photograph at the bottom shows
the entire quilt. The smaller photos show sections of the quilt so that
names can be read.
