Barry Co. Creamery and Ice Plant Submitted by: Richard Carlton |

My great grandparents were
George E. Joslin and his wife Jenny B. (Pierce) Joslin. They moved to
Cassville prior to 1905 (because I find their first son, DeVere, in your
website's photo of the Cassville Concert Band - 1905). George was
proprietor of the Barry County Creamery & Ice Plant. My family album has a
picture of it c.1915. The family lore is that (sometime after that) it
burned down. In 1920 George and DeVere established the Rolla Creamery &
Ice Plant in Rolla, MO. My grandfather was their second son Verne George Joslin. The 1910 census identifies George's occupation (in Cassville) as a "Miller" and the nature of his business as "Flour Mill". I'd be interested in identifying what flour mill he had in Cassville. It must have predated the creamery. The First 150 Years in Cassville, Missouri, by Senator Emory Melton, the creamery proprietor was George E. Joslin. He mentions that in 1915 Mr. Joslin added an ice plant adjacent to the creamery. |
