William A. Lumley
Born abt 1759 in VA
Died Oct. 28, 1843 at Lumley's Mill, Lawrence Co., MO
During the Revolutionary War, William served in the 10th
Regiment, Virginia Line, under the command of Colonel William
Davies. Muster Roll of Lieutenant Alexander Ewing, at
Chesterfield, Virginia, shows Private William Lumley, age 19,
enlisted August 1777, residence Southampton County, Virginia. He
participated in the Battle of Guilford Court house and other
skirmishes. He was awarded a veteran's pension and his wife
Mary drew a widow's pension upon his death.
1800 Federal census shows William in South Carolina.
He appeared before a veteran's pension board on 1 April 1822
as a resident of McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee.
1830 Federal census shows in Madison County, Illinois.
He came to Barry County, Missouri in 1835 and built a water mill
on Mill Branch, a short distance from where it flows into
Turnback Creek.
1840 Federal census shows in Barry (now Lawrence) County,
Missouri.
William Lumley married Mary Turner born about 1760 and they had
the following children: Thomas, Winifred, Turner, Green, Martha,
Sarah, George, and Mary.
