Research Note: Frederick Elmer Nickle was inducted on May 28, 1918. He trained with the 88 Infantry Division. He was assigned E Company, 350 Infantry Regiment, 88 Division. Elmer sailed for France on Aug 11, 1918 in H.M.S. Delta. He served in the Center Sector, Haute Alsace. Elmer arrived back in the States on May 30, 1919. His discharge papers describe him as a farmer having brown eyes, brown hair, ruddy complexion and 5 feet, 9 inches in height. He was honorably discharged at Camp Zachary Taylor, Louisville, KY on Jun. 7, 1919.

Ira was reassigned to Co. B, 318th, Inf. Regt. while in hospital. Ira was invalided home May 27, 1919. Ira was adjudged totally disabled on Sep. 24. 1921.

Research Note: I have letters written by Paul to my Dad (they were brothers), during his service in WWI. Paul was in France at the time his father died in Sept. 1917. Other letters were from other countries he was serving in. His wife Josephine was born Carbone, but raised by John & Eliza Sears, and their marriage license is in the name of Josephine Sears.

Research Note: The Wheaton Journal, June 6, 1919 - "Soldier Boys home Each succeeding day of the past week seemed to bring another returning soldier. Six boys from this district have returned since last weeks issue and with the exception of two or three, this completes the homecoming of soldiers of Wheaton. Jess Rice, Guy Planchon, Otto Ruppert, Ralph Tarvin, Virgil Tarvin, and Lee Davis compose the list. Most of the boys have seen action in some of the sections where the hardest fighting occurred. Otto Ruppert was sent back to the U.S. several months ago as a casual(ty) and has been recovering from his injuries. They are looking fine and in the best of health. The Journal joins their many friends and relatives in extending them a hearty welcome."

Maurice V. Lamberson editor Guy was a partner in the Planchon Motor Co., a Chevrolet agency, which was located on Main Street in Wheaton, MO. Guy later operated a fill and service on the east end of Main Street in Wheaton, MO.
