Research Note: He was a son of John Conway Ireland and Ruby Agnes Wood. His first job was hoeing cotton. He was a veteran of WWII, and was the #3 boxing contender for middle weight world champion. He fought in the Cow Palace in San Francisco, Olympic Gardens in Los Angeles and Madison Square Garden in New York. He worked in the log woods of California, Oregon, Washington andAlaska where he harvested trees 7 feet in diameter. He was the owner and operator of a tire shop in Yuma, Arizona, and was the drummer for his own band and played in Las Vegas. He was a long haul truck driver with a record of 3 ½ million miles non chargeable accidents. He married Mary June Maring, July 2, 1965 at Silver Creek, Nebraska, and moved to this area to make his home. He waslead man at RTW for 25 years until his retirement and personally made the drill bit used on the first moon landing to drill a sample of the moon core.
