Feb. 8, 1897 |
Research Note: Obituary: Bessie, daughter of A. W. and S. M. Roberts, died at her home near Washburn, Feb 8, age 1 year, 2 months, and 8 days. Her stay on earth was short but during that time her loving heart so attracted her dear parents, brothers, and sisters that it was a great struggle for them to say goodbye. But He who took little children in His arms and blessed them has taken this little one to Himself - where she can never enter and where her teacher is perfect. The Good Shepherd has carried the little lamb across the river that the parents and loved ones may follow. Her remains were followed to the Horner Church by relatives and friends where her funeral was preached an the body buried in the cemetery. May the family be reunited in heaven. E. W. McCracken. |

Research Note: In 1999 there was no listing for any Simpson and in 2006 Darla didn't have a photo for anyone named Simpson. But - in 1982 Joan Kunkel reported a stone there for this person. If this is not a mistake in data, then this could possibly have been John Archibald Simpson who was buried there. There was a listing for Archibald Simpson on the 1860 Federal Census with an approximate age of this John A. |

SMITH, Thomas |
Abt. 1819 |
Aug. 1909 |
Research Note: Thomas Smith, aged about 80 years, died at his home on Rock House in Mineral Township, Thursday of general debility, after an illness of about two months. "Uncle Tommy" Smith as he was known, was born in East Tennessee, and had been a resident of Barry County for a number of years and was well known by all the old timers. He leaves a wife and two sons, Robert Smith of Oklahoma and Jas. Smith of Mt Vernon to mourn his death. He was married twice, marrying Mrs. Mary Moore, mother of Frank Moore of near town the second time. His wife and son James were at his bedside when he died. Funeral services were held at the Horner Cemetery Friday afternoon at four o'clock by Rev. Wesley Ennis after which the remains were laid to rest in the Horner Cemetery. One by one the old timers are called to the great beyond and it will be but a short time until they have all passed over the other side. We extend our sympathy in their sad hour of distress.
