Research Note: His given name is not on the headstone. It is from the 1910 Census. There is a loose stone that has been placed at the Melinda J. Eden headstone that has E. E. on it. Then another stone next to Emma Bridgeman Eden and U. Grant Eden headstone - Inscription: "How much of light How much of Joy Is buried with Our darling boy" - Phyllis' Note: His death certificate reads that he was a son of Grant Eden, born MO, and Emma Bridgman, born GA. His father was the informant of Exeter, MO. Cause of death was meningitis and typhoid fever. Cassville Republican, Oct. 1, 1914, Thursday - Union Valley News - Earl, son of Grant and Emma Eden, died Friday, Sept 25, at 3 a.m. of typhoid fever after twenty-seven days of illness. He leaves a father, mother and one sister. Had he lived until Sept 27th, he would have been 12 years of age. The remains were laid to rest in Exeter in the Maplewood Cemetery, Saturday afternoon after funeral services conducted at the Baptist church, by Rev. M. Smith. |

He was the husband of Rosa Belle Smith and the father of Floyd A., Loren T., Harriet, Leon, Lois A., Lola, Jack, Leo W., and Lela. Phyllis' Note: Obit from the Joplin Globe reads: George W. Erwin, 84 years old, Galena resident 35 years, died at 7 o'clock this morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lola Holt, on Galena route 1, three and one-fourth miles north of Riverton. Erwin, a carpenter by trade, had been in declining health the last two years, following severe injuries suffered when he was struck by a motor car at Seventh and Main streets here. Surviving are three sons, Floyd A. Erwin of Greenleaf, Kan., Loren T. Erwin of Paramount, Calif., and Leo W. Erwin of Oreville, Calif.; four daughters. Mrs Lela Hessee of Maryville, Calif., Mrs. Lola Holt of Galena route 1, Mrs. Lois Catron of Cassville, Mo., and Mrs Harriett Webring of San Landros, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Kathern Keenan of Joplin and Mrs. Sadie Adams of Fresno, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. |

Research Note: The Vern Erwin at Maplewood is the son of William Steward "Bill" and Fonia (Stephens) Erwin. Cassville Democrat October 10, 1973 - Vern Erwin, 90, Exeter, died at 5 in a.m. Sunday October 7 Cardwell Memorial Hospital at Stella. Mr. Erwin was born August 18, 1883, in Washburn and was member of the Exeter First Baptist Church. Survivor include his wife, Mrs. Helen Erwin; two sons Raymond Erwin, Bakersfield, California, and Fred Erwin, of the State of Texas, a daughter, Mrs. Faye Pliley, Kansas City; two stepsons, C. J. Bourshaski, Fairview and L. J. Bourshaski of Kansas City, Kansas; two sisters Mrs. Florence Henderson and Mrs. Zola Wheeler both of Bakersfield and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Culver's Chapel with burial in Maplewood Cemetery at Exeter. |
