Research Note: LIEUTENANT COLONEL GARY J. HIGGS, USAF (Ret.) Son of Chester Oliver Higgs and Marguerite Hoyt Higgs. Enlisted in the United States Air Force March 1959. He was accepted as an aviation cadet and entered navigator training at Harlingen Air Force Base, Texas. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in August 1960. After attending Radar Intercept Officer School and serving with the 2nd Fighter Intercept Squadron, Long Island, New York, LTCOL Higgs was selected for pilot training and received his pilot wings at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona in 1964. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Outstanding Unit Award. He married Jaclyn Harter. |

Phyllis posted: Hazel, daughter of Ora (Walker) Erwin and Judge Erwin, was born October 11, 1913, in Wayne, Barry Co., Missouri, one of eight children. Hazel was the last surviving child of Ora and Judge. |

Inscription: "MISSOURI SEAMAN US NAVY" - Research Note: He was a son of George A. Hiles and Mary E. Chamberlain. Cassville Republican, July 1, 1937 - W.C. (Winn) Hiles, who lived at Exeter when he was a young man, died Friday at his home at Gordon, Ark. He died suddenly. Winn, as his many friends here about his old home knew him, was here on a visit, nearly every year with his mother, Mrs. Mary Hiles who died a few months ago at Exeter, and his sister, Miss Hattie Hiles, who had lately been at Gordon with her brother. Mr. Hiles had been sick for sometime. His two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Haynes of California, and Miss Hattie Hiles were with him during his illness. They and Mr. Haynes accompanied his body back to Exeter for the funeral and burial. The Funeral services were conducted by Mrs. Claude Miller of Monett, a Christian Scientist. The Hiles family are of the Christian Science faith. Burial was in the Maplewood cemetery at Exeter. The Christian Science service was given. Pall bearers were: John Ellston, Earl Smithson, A.L. Walker, John Hughes, A.D. Taylor, and Jess Walker. Surviving him are his widow, one daughter, and two sisters Mrs. Lottie Haynes and Miss Hattie Hiles. Hattie Hiles. |

From 1958 to 1962 he served in the United States Marine Corps. In 1964, he married Patricia Miles and they had three daughters. They later divorced. He worked for over 30 years in the southeast Kansas oilfield industry and later retired after 15 years with NuWay Industries. In 2004 he moved from Chanute to Exeter, MO. He was preceded in death by his father, brother Francis H. "Corky" Hutinett, and sisters Barbara Jean and Mary Patricia. |
