SSW: Helen - Research Note: He was married and a farmer. He was a son of J. C. Jenkins and Rozilla Perkins. Cause of death was heat exhaustion. Minnie B. Jenkins of Exeter, MO was the informant. Cassville Republican, July 15, 1915 - #1. Porter Jenkins was born in Erie County, Pennsylvania, Feb 23, 1845, where he grew to manhood. In 1862 he enlisted in the Union Army, Pennsylvania, Vols. where he served until the close of the war in 1865. On Feb 8, 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Hellen D. Wells. To this union were born 7 children, four boys and three girls, four of whom are living. He left the state of Pennsylvania 42 years ago and has lived in several different states. He moved to Barry County Missouri 7 years ago, and bought a farm on the head of Shoal creek where he resided until the day of his death, July the 11th, 1915. He leaves a wife, four children, also his mother, four brothers and five sisters to mourn his loss. He was a kind and affectionate husband, a living father and a good citizen. The funeral was held Monday at the residence conducted by Rev. T. H. Hickman. The body was laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery at Exeter. - #2. Dies From Overheat: Porter Jenkins, a highly respected citizen of Liberty township, died Sunday morning at his home west of Exeter from the effects of overheat on the evening before. Mr. Jenkins was 70 years old. He was at work about his place on Saturday afternoon and was overcome with heat. He seemed to have recovered from the prostration and on Sunday morning did the chores. Later in the forenoon he was found lying on his bed dead. |

Phyllis' Note: The obit has Lora Kemper Munson Cole but is buried with her first husband, Bert Kemper. She was the third daughter of George "Albert" and Nola Mae (Wiley) Thomas. On June 30, 1987, in Miami, Okla., she was united in marriage to Roy Cole. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Bert Kemper and Vern Munson; and three sisters, Jewell Griffin Kemper, Eula Mae McAdams, and Clara Edmondson Hamilton. She graduated as valedictorian of her Cassville high school class in 1934 and attended beauty college in Cassville. She and her first husband, Bert Kemper, were foster parents, house parents for Big Brothers. Her last employment was as the Activities Director at the Joplin Senior Center. |

Ray was 1st Councilor in the Bishopric, and most recently was the Branch Mission Leader with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cassville, Missouri. |
