Galloway was the informant. August 11, 1917, Saturday, Cassville Democrat - Judge Galloway was married Oct. 17, 1861, to Miss Sarah Jane Henson, to whom were born twelve children, three dying in infancy, nine living who are: A. L. Galloway and Mrs. J. H. Thomas and Jesse Galloway of this city; Chas. Galloway, Mrs. Horace Gardener and Mrs. Gilla Short of Monett; Frank Galloway of Houston, Tex., Geo. Galloway of Pomona, Howell County; Zach Galloway of near Aurora, MO. All his brothers and sisters are dead except Mrs. Annie Baze of Sumner, Texas. He was a brother of the late Maj. Chas. Inscription: "CO. B. 31 ILL. INF. WAS WITH JOHN A. LOGAN 16 ARMY CORPS" Research Note. His stone is broken off from the base and the top part is on the ground. It reads that he was born Jan. 1, 1826 and not in 1825 as posted. He is buried next to Margaret. The newspaper account reads: He lived in Illinois until after the Civil War. During that great civil struggle he espoused the Union cause and enlisted and served during the war with John A. Logan's command, in the 31st Illinois regiment. He received an honorable discharge at the close of the war and soon moved west, locating in Barry County on a farm three miles southwest of Cassville. Later he moved to town and had remained there until his death. Mrs. Gaskins had been twice married. Both wives are dead. He leaves five sons and four daughters: I. H. Gaskins of Exeter, Wm. Gaskins of Coffeyville, Kan., Jake, John and Seth of this city, Mrs. D. E. Trim of Guthrie, Okla., Mrs. J. L. Richardson of St. Louis, Mrs. Chas. Hutchens and Mrs. B. F. Johnson of this city. On June 21, 1959, in the First Baptist Church, Cassville, he was united in marriage to Donna Sue Dryer, who preceded him in death on August 26, 2002. Jim graduated from Raytown High School. He worked as a meat cutter in his early years in Kansas City and then was a store manager for J. C. Penney. In 1975, he and Donna opened Goade's Family Shoe Store in McPherson, Kansas, which they operated until 1983. They moved to Mesquite, Texas, where they both took supervisor positions with Swif-T Convenience Stores until 1991 when they moved to Cassville to make their home.
