Research Note: Daughter of Burl Pleasant and Artie Caroline (Rubow) Mitchell. On May 16, 1945, she went to work for the United States Postal Department in Seligman as a postal clerk. In 1972, she became the Postmaster in Exeter and retired on December 3, 1983 after 37 ½ years of service. Erma Jean met Walter Fred Preston in 1932 on their first day at school in Seligman and they were married on January 5, 1945. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Preston was preceded in death by four brothers, William Monroe Mitchell, who died in infancy; Charlie James Mitchell, who was killed and buried in Italy in 1943 during World War II; Earl Frank Mitchell in 1965; and Clyde Gordon Mitchell, in 1998; and one sister, Alice Pauline Padgett in 1999. |

That his father was Morgan Skaggs, born in TN, and that his mother was Maggie Hudson, born in Huntsville, AR. The dates on the stone for Wilton don't match the death certificate dates. The death certificate gives Feb 6, 1897 as his birth date and the death date as Oct 27, 1923. It reads that his clothes caught on fire and that he burned to death at the county house. William C. Skaggs of Seligman, MO, gave the information. The stone for Wilton is next to the stone for Morgan G. Skaggs. |

Mrs. Skelton was a daughter of W.W. Frost of Seligman. She was a teacher in the schools of this county a few years ago and was a very popular young woman. She leaves three small children, one only about a week old at the time of her death. |

A life-long resident of this area, she was a medical claims adjuster for Wal-Mart, a member of the Church of Christ of Seligman, and worked with the mentally disabled. |
