Inscription: "Wife of James C. Aged 41 ys. 6 ms. 23 ds." - Research Note: Sarah Matilda Childers married James C. Sherrell (alternate spelling, Sherill) Sep.1, 1848 in McMinn Co., TN. Her mother was Keziah Childers, maiden not known to me. My research shows that James Sherrill was the son of Eli Sherrill (1794-Jul. 17, 1877) and Nancy McPherson (exact dates not known to me). John W. A. Sherrill, the first child of James and Sarah Sherrill, was born in 1849 in McMinn Co., TN. He married Elizabeth C. Rickman Nov. 17, 1869 in Lawrence Co., MO. His siblings: Laura Ann (Jan. 22, 1856-Apr.13, 1928, married Lewis Scott Apr.2, 1871 in Barry Co., MO and is buried in Osa Cemetery; Nancy (1858, married Joseph B. Scott Sep 1, 1872 in Barry Co., MO); Emma (1860); James B. (1862), and Nathan (1864) were all born in Illinois. The family apparently came to Missouri ca. 1865. After Sarah Matilda died, apparently as a complication of childbirth, James Sherrill married Mrs. Harriet Stubblefield May 1, 1868 in Barry Co., MO | Photo Jay Trace US Federal Census Records Marriage Records McMinn Co., TN 1820-1870, by Reba Bayless Boyer Jim L.
