Research Note: Washburn News: Grandma Lytle died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Boles, the south part of town the 20th. She had been an invalid for many years. She leaves two sons, Eert Lytle of Joplin, and Tome Lytle of Washburn and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Bolen of Washburn. The remains were laid to rest in the Truelove cemetery, three miles north of town by the side of her husband, who passed away nine years ago. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Chas McNabbb of Wheaton. This Cassville Democrat obit reads that her husband is also buried in Truelove. |

SSW: Mary E. - Research Note: Former Citizen Dies William Montgomery died at his home in Fairland, Okla., Friday, Apr. 4, of Bright's disease, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 4 days. He had been confined to his home for about two years and had suffered from the disease which cased his death about eight years. His body was brought to Washburn Sunday. The funeral services were held at the Truelove church north of Washburn Monday afternoon and interment made in the cemetery nearby. William B. Montgomery was born on Washburn Prairie in 1859. He was a son of the late John Montgomery, one of the pioneers of Barry county. He lived in this county near Washburn all of his life until 1907 when he and his family moved to Okla. Before moving to Oklahoma he owned and lived on the farm where Keet LeCompte now lives. He was well and favorably known in that part of the county and his many friends were grieved to hear of his death. He leaves a wife and four children. |

Phyllis' Note: He was a son of Stephen Thompson, born Rhea Co., TN and Elizabeth Peterson. - December 23, 1915, Thursday, Cassville Republican - William Thompson Passes Away: William Thompson, a prominent farm and highly respected citizen so near Washburn, died at his home Saturday morning, Dec. 18 at 6 o'clock of heart trouble and a complication of troubles. Mr. Thompson had been in ill health for several months and very low for several weeks, word was received here two or three times during the past month that he had passed away. William Thompson was born in Johnson County, Missouri in 1850. When about seven years old his parents moved to this county where he had ever continued to live. He was married to Miss John E. Truelove and to them two children were born, Trudie, deceased and Mrs. Fannie Reed, who lives on the old home place. Mr. Thompson was twice married, his second wife being Mrs. Mary Kirk Stringer. No children were born to them. He leaves three brothers, Frank Thompson of this city, Henry and Joe Thompson of Newton County. William Thompson was one of this county's best citizens. He was an industrious and enterprising farmer, upright and honorable in all of his dealings and held in high esteem. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Truelove church, conducted by Rev. Chas. Vansant. The body was laid to rest in the True Love Cemetery nearby. Another Photo |
