Research Note: James Monroe "Doc" Day served with Company H, 6 Texas Cavalry commanded by Colonel Lawrence Sullivan Ross. The 6 Texas fought at Shiloh, Franklin, Lookout Mountain, and the Siege of Vicksburg. In the closing weeks of the war, James was returning to his unit from furlough when he stopped and visited with his brothers and and relatives serving with the 36 Texas Cavalry in LA. He went into action with the 36 Texas and was severely wounded in the arm.
