Research Note: Samuel's mother, Sarah was a sister to Elmira (Antle) Hadley, and Jacob Antle that also lived in Barry Co. Samuel and family came to Barry Co. before 1860 from Adair Co., KY. Samuel and 3 of his brothers (Henry, William Jefferson and James) along with their cousin Oliver Antle  - See Oliver's military history at this link below:

He enlisted on Sept 12 1862 in Newton Co., MO. Samuel deserted in Nov 1862 at Skully, AR. After this date there is no further military record for Samuel. After the Civil War Samuel lived in Washington Co., AR, Tillman Co., OK and Garvin Co. OK.

Samuel applied for a state pension from Oklahoma State based on his Civil War service, His application was rejected because he had deserted, but he claimed to have been honorably discharged in the spring of 1865 near Waco, TX.
