Research Note: John might of been born in IL where his parents were married a year before his birth, and not KY. His service record describes him as having grey eyes and light or sandy hair with a fair complexion, and 5ft 10in. John enlisted Aug. 10, 1862. in Barry Co. Oct. 6, 1862 finds him at Elm Springs, AR.

Dec 23, 1862 he is at Fort Smith, AR. Discharged at Fort Pleasant, AR on Apr. 13 1863. John's brother, Everhart Hadley and a cousin Sidney Antle also served in the same regiment. Another brother, James H. Hadley served with 2nd Arkansas Cavalry, Union.
