Reference: "Dr. Solon Abernathy was a physician, and in youth had been educated for the Presbyterian ministry. He moved from Kentucky to the hill county of Missouri, and was living there at the time of the Civil War, when the population was much divided over the issues of the war. All suffered in common privations, hardships and poverty, and in that situation Dr. Solon Abernathy was the "lowly shepherd" and the "good physician," ministering to the spiritual as well as the physical welfare of both the northern and southern sufferers" [Ref: Missouri, Mother of the West, 1930, Vol. 5.] |
