Estate of Mary E. Easley and Robert Easley, under 21

Columbus Easley appointed Guardian and Curator.

Bond: $ 232., 9 March 1870, Columbus Easley, Sampson Sellers and John Easley, bondsmen.
Reference: Greenberry Easley was also one of my mother's great grandparents, the story I heard from my mother, was that the jay hawkers came one night and Greenberry ran out of the house to hide, ran into a pole fence and punctured his side and died shortly after this, and as I remember his wife died one week later, leaving several children the oldest being 12 years old there was also a Negro mammy living with them, shortly after the mother died the jay hawkers came again and took the Negro mammy, leaving the children alone, it was known that Greenberry had quite a bit of gold and made loans to many of his neighbors, it was said he kept a fruit jar with gold in the house and had others buried on the property. Darla Marbut said that her Mother, Faye, was told by her mother, Mollie, who was the granddaughter of Green Berry Easley this very same story, except her mother called them bushwhackers.

Darla said that there were three children left at home when the parents died, Hulda, Mary and Robert. And she said that Robert told the same story to reporters in Eureka Springs and it appeared in the newspapers there.

Robert said his older brother Christopher Columbus "Lum" Easley would slip home and try to help them, but that they about starved to death. They had set a trap for turkeys. He had to get the turkey out of the trap and he was so small, he said that turkey nearly beat them to death before he could get it. I had understood from the old stories that Evelyn Johnston Easley (Mrs. Green Berry) had taken a train to see about her wounded son, Martin VanBurn Easley. She got pneumonia and died. Martin also died a few weeks later.

Green Berry Easley was born Sep 20, 1805, died Oct 29, 1863 and his wife Eveline "Evelyn" (Johnson) Easley was born Feb 15, 1818 died Jan 3, 1864.  Ref: Darla Marbut
