T.H. McBeath, Aged 96, Passes Away Sunday, Was Veteran of Two Wars. Invalid Three Years. T. J. McBeath, a resident of Cassville since 1922, and for the past three years an invalid, passed away Sunday at the home of his niece, Mrs. W.H. Lathim, at the age of nearly 97 years. Theopolis J. McBeath was born in Wayne county Kentucky in 1833 and with his parents moved to Caldwell county Missouri, where he grew to manhood and for twelve years followed the profession of school teaching. At the outbreak of the Civil War he joined the Union army in which he served 4 years and 8 months. He re- enlisted and served for one year and two months in the Sioux Indian war under Gen. Miles. During the Civil War he was in the Battle of Lexington, Cold Harbor, Shiloh and the siege of Vicksburg. At the battle of Shiloh he had in charge of the muster roll of the Union army. He is thought to be the last survivor of his company, also of the 50th Illinois regiment. Returning home after his army service he was postmaster at Gridley, Mo. for twelve years. In 1876 he was census enumerator for three townships in Caldwell County. He never married and in 1922 when broken in health he came to Cassville and made his home with his sister, Mrs. M.A. Brookman and for the past three years has been bedfast. He was given the devoted service of his sister, who cared for him although she was not exceptionality strong herself, and after the fire a few weeks ago that destroyed their home he was taken to the home of his niece. Mrs. W. H Lathim. Funeral services were held at the W.H. Lathim residence Monday afternoon conducted by Rev.Harvey Jones of Monett and interment made in Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of the Horine Funeral Service. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. M.A. Brookman and one brother A.C. McBeath of Minneapolis, Minn., who visited him during the fall.
