January 25, 1917, Thursday, Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO Personal and Local Mr. and Mrs. John Allen received a letter the first of the week informing them that Mrs. John Huff had died on Jan. 16, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Stansbury, at Elk City, Okla., and was buried three. Mrs. Huff formerly lived in the Pasley neighborhood south of Cassville and is well known by the older residents of that section. Mrs. H. A. Gardner of Monett is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Galloway, of this city. A. Franke and son-in-law, Joe Bodise, of Capps Creek township were in this city, Monday. Charles Easley, one of the prominent farmers of the Eagle Rock country was in the county seat Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Denver Banks and daughter Naomi, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Trollinger and sons, Marion and Earl, took dinner at Mrs. J. A. Hopkins Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Scott left Wednesday evening for Willow Springs where they were called by the serious illness of Mr. Scott's mother. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Farwell of Heglar, Idaho, who have been visiting their parents here and at Rocky Comfort left for their home at Heglar Wednesday. Miss Georgia Simpson of Mano was in the city Wednesday. At the trial of Vince Neeley, Monday, charged with violating the local option law, before Justice S. R. Reynolds, he was found guilty by a jury and fined $300. He appealed. Washburn Prairie: The infant babe of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fulton was buried here Saturday. East Purdy: Miss Dessie Russell has returned home from Monett where she has been staying with her sister, Mrs. A. C. Kennedy. Oak Ridge: Mrs. Mattie Cooper will leave in a few days to visit her daughter in Kansas. Her son, Paul, and wife will go later overland. Oak Ridge: A. Mr. Dugan who bought the Oakley place in Oak Ridge dist. has moved into one of Mr. Ferrill's houses until he gets his own remodeled. He has had quite a lot of experience as a geological engineer and will prospect his land quite thoroughly. Butterfield: Rev. Vermillion preached at the Baptist Church Saturday night, Sunday and Sunday night and also attended Sunday School and L. t. L. meeting at Gunter, Sunday afternoon. Butterfield: Will Smalley, wife and babe of Cassville visited Mrs. Smalley's parents Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Willard, Sunday. Rev. J. T. Brattin received a letter the first of the week from Jas. Shaffer in a hospital at Loveland, Colo., to be operated on for a tumor. Mrs. Shaffer is a sister of Joe Baker and Mrs. Dave Talbert east of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer were for many years residents of the county and her many friends would be glad to know that she stands the operation successfully. Rev. L. H. White and family of Lexington, Tenn., arrived at Exeter Tuesday. Rev. White is the pastor of the Methodist churches of this circuit and will preach at Cassville tonight, Thursday. He will preach here regular the first and third Sundays of each month. You are cordially invited to come out and hear him.
Married Eldon Ball and Miss Eva Prier were united in marriage Sunday, Jan. 14, 1917, at the home of the bride. The ceremony was said by Rev. Geo. Haddock. Mr. Ball is the son of Finis Ball of near Eagle Rock and Mrs. Hall is the daughter of J. T. Prier also of near Eagle Rock. Monday night a large crowd gathered and gave them a charivari. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The people of Munsey wish them a long and happy life.
