January 13, 1917, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO D. A. PETERS OLD TIME EDITOR PASSES AWAY A phone message was received in this city Thursday, bringing the sad news of the death of D.A. Peters, Editor and Proprietor of the Monett Daily Times at his home in the city, Wednesday at about 6 p.m. As we get the facts, they are about as follows: Wednesday evening Mrs. Peters and her daughter Miss Pearl had been taking a ride in their buggy and returned home somewhere between 5 and 6 p.m. and hitched the horse in the barn to unharness the horse. He was gone longer than necessary and they went out to the barn to see about him when they found him hanging over the manger dead from heart failure. For many years he was editor and proprietor of the Times and had been successful with it. He was a good man and citizen and had hosts of friends in Monett, that will be made sad by his sudden departure. He was 65 years of age. He leaves his wife and two daughters Miss Pearl at home and Mrs. Homer McIntosh who was recently married, to mourn the passing of a loving husband and father. We understand that he was a member of the Presbyterian Church. We sympathize with the bereaved relative in their bitter sorrow. *** Add Miller Married It was a surprise to everybody when the report reached this city that Add Miller and Miss Lulu Irvin of near this city were married Tuesday by Rev. Wm. Ireland at his residence near Exeter. While we are glad he is married, we think he played an ugly trick on many of his friends, by not letting some of them into the secret, especially after some of them were very liberal with their advice as to his getting married this year. Miss Irvin is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Irvin who resides southeast of this city, 2 to 4 miles and is splendid young woman that will grace the home that Add had already prepared for her. Add Miller is a bachelor that enjoys the respect and good will of all his acquaintance and he and wife will have the best wishes of all for a very successful and happy life. *** John Trim Dead It is with feelings of regret that we announce the death of John Trim at Sarcoxie, January 2, who is reported to have died very suddenly. He was a son of the late Wm. E. Trim an esteemed citizen of this county during life and was born at Roaring River Spring, where his father and the late Wm. McClure operated a flouring mill for many years. His mother Mrs. Lou Price survives her son and resides at Sarcoxie. He leaves a wife and three or four children to mourn his passing. *** Chas. Stinnett Dead Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Houston and daughters Mrs. Naomi Trolinger of this city and Mrs. Gladys Brown of Purdy, accompanied by Blaine Bailey, motored to Wentworth, Saturday to attend the funeral of Chas. Stinnett, a brother-in-law of Sheriff Houston. He died Thursday, January 4, of typhoid fever, age 43 years, leaving his wife and two children to mourn his passing. Rev. W. C. Wiley of the Christian church conducted funeral services Saturday afternoon. Many years ago the decendant [deceased] was circuit clerk of Newton county. Mrs. Stinnett is a sister of Sheriff Houston. *** Card of Thanks We desire to return our sincere thanks for the kindness shown us by the people of Cassville, on the death of our husband and brother, John Gaskins. To Bro. Love for his comforting words, to the choir and the pall beares. [bearers] Mrs. John Gaskins, Mrs. B. F. Johnson, Mrs. Chas. Hutchens, Jacob and Seth Gaskins. *** Wheaton Mill Afire Mal Johnson of Wheaton, was a visitor to this city Saturday and said the flouring mill at that place was discover on the fire the night before, Jan 5, at about 11 o'clock and by the prompt assistance of the citizens the fire was soon extinguished. He said the citizen were still figuring on the rebuilding of the ice and electric light plant that was burned recently. *** Henson Holds Court Saturday, Jan 6, Judge Henson and Court Stenographer McClure of Mt. Vernon, came over and held a special term of circuit court, his first term in this district, and accepted the plea of guilty of Emmett Granger of Monett, for burglary and larceny for which he received four years in the penitentiary Sheriff Houston left Sunday night for the capitol city taking Granger with him. *** In Probate Court Final settlement made: Louis Schneider deceased.
