January 27, 1917, Saturday, Cassville Democrat, Barry Co., MO 

Murderer Captured

Wm. Webber, an escaped murder from the state penitentiary at Jefferson City, who was convinced at Joplin of murdering Mrs. Louise Hagenbuch in her boarding house at Joplin in October, 1914, a sister of Moss Ingram of Mountain View, Howell County, was arrested at Benton, Ill, on the 20th. He was arrested on a charge of robbing a drug store and will probably be returned to the Missouri penitentiary.

A. J. Weston Dead

Double bereavement has visited the home of Andrew Weston at Galena, Kan., within less than a week and the father and mother have both gone to that sprit land of eternal delight where all should strive to arrive on their departure from this cold and cruel world of sin and sorrow. Mrs. Weston died on the 19th and the 24th Mr. Weston bid farewell to earth, relatives and friends and his spirit took its flight to realms of eternity. Many years ago he resided in this county and has many relatives and acquaintances who will be grieved to learn of his passing. The remains were interred there. The decedent was a brother of Harve Weston of Fairland, Okla. and uncle of James and Walter Weston of near this city. He was 69 years old. He was the step father of Mrs. Geo. Porter of near this city.

Mrs. T. Phillips Passes Away

Mrs. Mary Ann Jones was born Sept 4, 1834 and died Jan 20, 1917, age 82 years, 4 months and 16 days. She was married to the late Titus Phillps, April 6, 1859 and to this union were born three sons, William, John and Fran Phillips, of which the oldest son and father have gone on before. She professed faith in Christ in May 1849 and united with the Baptist Church in Illinois and moved to Missouri in 1872 and united with the Rocky Comfort Baptist Church, until Wheaton Church organized and changed her membership to the church and was amber there until the death angel bade her come up higher to a better land. She bore her sickness with much patience and lived a faithful Christian until she was called home. She was a living mother and will be greatly missed. While her loss on earth is her eternal gain. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, Jan 21, at the Rocky Comfort Baptist Church by Elder Chas. Vanzandt, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery at that place.

Katherine Patton Dead

Mrs. Katharine Patton died Jan 23, 1916, [1917] a the home of her daughter Mrs. Segle Riddle of near Cross Hollows, of paralysis, age 75 years, 3 months and 21 days. She was born in Hillsboro, Ill, Oct 30, 1841 and married the late Z. C. Patton at the age of 20 years. She leaves one daughter Mrs. Segle Riddle, and was the stepmother of Lite and Wm Patton of near Cross Hollows, Frank Patton of Joplin and Douglas Patton of Arkansas, and Mrs. Bert Lee of Illinois. Funeral Services were held Tuesday and them remains were interred in Sparks Cemetery.

Washburn & Greasy Creek: A good citizen passed away when James Pease died Saturday night at 9 p.m. the 20th. He was a member of the Methodist Church and was 77 years old. Funeral service conducted at the house, Monday by the Rev. D. T. Hutcheson and Rev. Bowers, Interment made at Washburn Prairie Cemetery, Monday evening. James Alvin Pease was born Jan 28, 1840, at Winsted, Conn. At the age of 21 he enlisted in Company E. 7th Connecticut Infantry and was discharged Sept 12, 1864. He went west with his father and mother and homesteaded in Neb., in 1868. He was married to Nettie Fetrow, March 1st, 1876 and to this union three daughters were born, Stella of the home, Mrs. J. H. Mooney of Washburn and Mrs. Ernest Lund of Cedar, Kan., also eight grand children and one brother, George L. Pease of Beatrice, Nebr., survive the deceased. He left Nebraska in 1895 and moved to Springfield staying there a few months and then located in Washburn. He was a loving husband, a good kind father and many friends are left to mourn his loss.

Mrs. Daugherty Dead

Mrs. Preston Daugherty of near Stella, Newton County, died Jan 22, of acute indigestion, age 66 years. She was a daughter of the late Albert who lived in the Pasley neighborhood, and a half sister of Mrs. Jas. Waddell and Mrs. Clay Stubblefield of near this city and Edward Henbest and Mrs. Jas. Fox of Washburn, and Alfred Henbest of near Monett. They formerly resided near Washburn. Mr. Daugherty is a son of the late Josiah Daugherty who resided during life near Washburn. Mrs. Waddell, Edward Henbest and Mrs. Fox attended the funeral and returned Thursday.
