Personal And Local

Miss Ruth Smith of Houston came over Monday for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Smith.

Fred Sills says that his son, Allen G., who is living with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Earl at Amarillo, Tex., will graduate next year from the Amarillo High School.

P. A. Roller of near Purdy, one of the leading young farmers and dairymen in the county, had business here Friday. He sad that he dairy business is now coming along in fine shape.

The solider were allowed 3 1/2 cents per mile when they received their discharge from the camps for traveling expenses home. The amount is now to be made up to them to 5 cents per mile upon application.

Fred Sills who has been enjoying a ten days vacation from his duties as guard at the State prison, leaves today, Wednesday, for Jefferson City. He is looking well. This was his first vacation since going there two years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. U. L. Barnes of Seligman lately returned from a visit with their daughters, Mrs. Glen Hildredth and Mrs. George Rieck, of Ankeny and Elkhart, Iowa. Mrs. Barnes had been there for about a month and getting sick Mr. Barnes went to accompany her home. They say that the part of Iowa which they visited is a very fine county.

The REPUBLICAN is authorized to announce a meeting at the Eagle Rock school house Saturday afternoon, May 31st at 2 o'clock for the purpose of organizing the Munsey cemetery association. All persons interested in this cemetery are invited to attend the meeting.

A family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Thomas near Leann Sunday. Their four children and families and other relatives were present. The children are J. H. Thomas of Cassville, Ira Thomas of Verona, Luther of Crane and Mrs. John Teague of near Aurora.

Park Stubblefield who is at home on a furlough from Santo Domingo where he has been in the U.S. Marine service will assigned to duty as a recruiting officer. He does not know definitely where he will be stationed but believes he will be sent to St. Louis. He is improving from wounds received last fall.

Mrs. Mary Burton went to Neosho Friday of last week to visit her sister, Mrs. Smith.

Homer Marbut of San Francisco, Calif., after two full four year terms of service in the United States Navy, has not re-entered the service and is now back in civilian life holding a good position in San Francisco. Homer has given his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Marbut, east of Cassville a pretty good hint that he and wife will visit home folks and friends here sometime this summer. The Reunion is the time of for them to come as they can see more people then than at any other time of the entire year.

Mr. and Mrs. F. N. Reese and daughter, Miss Lora, spent Sunday in Monett.

Mrs. R. L. Stubblefield and daughter, Mabel, and sons, Garlan, frank and Lawrence, motored to Monett Friday.

Walter Jones, cashier of the Bank of Washburn, was in Cassville on business Saturday morning.

Miss Louise Wright who has taught in Cassville High school for the past two years returned to Springfield Sunday. She has not decided yet where she will teach the coming year.

Fred Boyer northeast of town arrived home Tuesday night of last week from France where he served in the American army. He received his discharge at Camp Taylor, Ky.

Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Kinnaman have moved to Cassville and are occupying the J. W. George property. They will open a new store in Cassville as soon as their business house is remodeled and ready for use.

Marion Roller who has been at Kansas City for treatment since last December reports that he is improving slowly. His many friends over the county are hopeful for his recovery to permanent good health.

Vern Joslin, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Joslin, returned Friday evening from service with the American Expeditionary Forces in France. Vern was in the air service. He is looking fine and was given a most hearty welcome here.

Cal Crane of Ridgley died Wednesday, May 14, of Catarrhal fever, at the age of 42 years. He was a son of J. C. Crane of Ridgley and formerly a business man at Exeter. He leaves wife and five children. The funeral was held Thursday at Exeter and interment made in the Maple wood cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Black and daughter, Mrs. Lottie Hamilton, motored to Aurora Thursday and spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Black. Fred left with Congressman McPherson Thursday evening for Washington to be present at the opening of the extra session of Congress.

The plate glass front was set this week for the Kinnaman store building on the north side of the square.

The state is planning on putting twenty million young fish into the streams this summer. Two new hatcheries are also to be established.

Sheriff Houston went to Monett Sunday and brought to jail two men giving their names as Frank Allen and Raymond Greagson. Allen claims Memphis, Tenn., and Greagson, Texas as his home. The charge against the men is burglary and larceny.

W. D. Koon's mother of Kentucky is visiting him and family.

Fred Cornman of Jenkins said Tuesday while in Cassville that his cousin, Tom Wilder, was killed in battle last fall in France. Tom was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wilder who now live at Pierce City, and a brother of Cleo Wilder of Exeter. Word was received last September by Tom's parents that he had been wounded. Nothing more was heard from him until a short time ago when his parents were informed of his death.

W. J. Catron who for years was a prominent banker at Neosho, died a few weeks ago at Kansas City. His estate which is hired by his widow, a daughter and two sons, is valued at $230,000. The estate consisted of about twelve hundred acres of land in Saline, Lafayette and Bates Counties and in Custer County, Nebraska and in banks tock, government bonds and solvent notes.

The writer has been informed that the report that Elvin Barnes was married Sunday May 11th seems have been a mistake as Elvin says he knew nothing about it.

North Purdy

Robert Wormington and wife and grandson, Clyde Wormington, visited at Elzy Henderson's Sunday.

Shady Grove

J. A. McNally and son, Coleman, who have been sick, are getting better.

Eld. L. H. Shockley of Rocky Comfort preached at Butterfield Sunday and spent Sunday night with Isaac Weaver and family.

Shell Knob

Pete Luney is visiting his daughter, Mrs. James Hoggett.

Silas Carr was very sick the past week of smallpox but is now said to be improving. Wm Blankenship is also improving.

Forest Grove

Mrs. Ceola Bennett is up again after a severe siege of pneumonia.

Sunny Side

Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Still visited with their mother, Aunt Cynthia Still, Sunday.

Hazel and Bennie McCain spent Sunday with their sister, Mrs. E. C. Hooker.

Pleasant Ridge

Wash Pennel is moving back home today, Monday from Monett. They all come back.

Washburn Prairie

Miss Avesta Sims and baby visited her parents C. T. Fulton and wife Saturday night.

Mrs. Amah Foster returned last week from a visit with her sister, Mrs. Gustin, in Illinois. She was accompanied home by little Miss Roena Gustin who will spend the evening here.

Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Foster and little niece, Roena Gustin, Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Spain and children motored to Thomas Hollow after Sunday school and visited with Grant Edens and family.

Willow Branch

Born, to Joe Elbert and wife, May 14, a girl. Joe says if he can manage to get anything to cook there will be plenty to eat at his place as he now has six cooks.

Mrs. Peter Luney died Tuesday May 13. She had been suffering from an attack of pneumonia fever but seemed to be improving until a few days before her death. She leaves a husband three sons and four daughters to mourn her passing away. The sons are Robert and Tom, both living near and Floyd of Colorado. The daughters are Mrs. Georgia Hoggett of Shell Knob, Mrs. Lottie Anderson living near, Mrs. Lona Suttles and Mrs. Emma Castor of Crane. All were at her bedside during her sickness except Floyd. The body was laid to rest in the Stubblefield cemetery. Rev. Melvin Coones conducted the funeral services.

Washburn And Vicinity

Bryant Miller of Pea Ridge, Ark., spent the week end with his brother, P. D. Miller.

Miss Jewel Skaggs of Springfield is visiting her cousin, Misses Electa and Ruth Miller.

Mineral Spring

Mrs. Evans and children of Pennsylvania are visiting her daughter, Mrs. Lester Loftin.

Mrs. Pearl McCoy and two children are visiting her mother, Mrs. Wm. Holliday, of this place.

Rocky Comfort

Uncle Jake Sears died at his home in this city last Friday. He had been in ill health for several months. Death was due to stomach trouble and other ailments. Deceased was a highly respected citizen of this community and was a member of the Christian church. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Dollison. Interment was made in the city cemetery. The bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of all.

Preddy - White

Jess Preddy and Miss Ima White were married Sunday afternoon, May 18, at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Otis Cox, in the presence of relatives and a few friends, Rev. Cox officiating.

Mrs. Preddy is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe White. She was born and reared in Cassville. She graduated in a few years ago from the Cassville High school and since that time has been with the White Jewelry Co. Store.

Mr. Preddy has been in Cassville since his discharge from the military service. He is employed at Fawver & Padgett's.

The many friends of these excellent young people and extend wishes for a long, happy and useful married life.
